September 14 letter

Hello!!!!!!!!

Really quick update. This week was insane! We talked to a TON of people! We only ended up with 3 new investigators =( but we are trying really hard and we have a meeting with the ward council tomorrow so I'm excited to go to that and get some bapitsms going!
The zone conference we had was awesome! Hermana Miller and I sang very well and it really brought the spirit for what President Olsen talked about afterward. Speaking of the spirit, it is not with me right now because the guy running the internet place we're in is listening to scream-o and it's driving me crazy. If my thoughts are scattered PLEASE forgive me.
Dad, the weather here is great, but my body temperature is WAY out of wack! It gets really hot and we'll put our winter stuff back in our suitcases, and more then likely, the next day is rainy and cold so we have to dig stuff eback oeut again. That drieves mee crazy. Do you remember how I used to love cold weather so much more than hot weather? I think it might be turned around now. Weird huh?
We visited one of the families in the ward this week who got baptized 4 years ago by an Elder Skidmore. I thought, "NO FLIPPIN WAY!" It's not the same family as the guy that Alicia dated way back when because this guy's from California. Maybe relatives though!
A couple funny stories regarding how untouchy I've become since being in Argentina (it's kind of silly because I've always been a touchy person and being here is making me less and less like that. Everyone is always saying how in the U.S. we're not touchy. It's because people in this country OVERTOUCH!): We contacted a woman in the street and when I opened my mouth to talk she made a comment that says, "oh silly little girl preaching to me something I already know." As she was saying that, she caressed my face and without really meaning to and wondering why in the freaking world she was touching me, I jerked my head away from her hand. Then she told me that I reminded her of a girl she knew from Australia and I wanted to say, "that's great, just don't touch me." After the contact, my companion said, "I really thought that old lady was going to lose her hand."
Story number 2: We contacted an older couple in the street and the old man said that same phrase that says, silly girl, why is she preaching to me about something I already know. As this old man was rejecting the message I was trying to share, took my elbow. At first his touch was soft and it wasn't a big deal, but little by little he kept squeezing harder and it hurt. I jerked my arm away and ended the contact. Oh I was so mad. My companion sweetly said, "Hermana, you need to learn to love the touch." I looked at her and said, "hermana, he was sqeezing the crap out of my arm and it hurt!" She laughed and said, "Maybe he was about to fall over."
Anyway, I have no time left. Places to go, things to eat, you know. I'm glad to hear everything's well at home. Pray for my companion, Hermana Miller, because she just found out her dad is being sent to Afghanistan. Pray that her dad will be safe and that she will be comforted. We've been using general conference and the Book of Mormon a lot in our contacts and I'm loving it, because I can definitely talk easily about the answers received in both! I'll talk about a specific answer I received from a talk Elder Eyring gave a few years ago that helped me soooo much and has effected me to this day. Have an awesome week everyone!

Hasta la pasta!
Hermana Shumway
